On Saturday, the Jammu and Kashmir police apprehended two alleged drug traffickers in the Kathua and Poonch districts during separate operations. Additionally, properties belonging to two other individuals accused of illegal drug trade were confiscated, according to an official report.
A police spokesperson revealed that Rashid and Kaushal, residents of Kathua, were arrested after 10.5 kilograms of poppy straw was seized from the Rajbagh area. They are facing charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
In a separate incident, properties belonging to Poonch residents Najakat Hussain and Mukhtar Ahmed were seized by a team from Udhampur police as part of an investigation under the Narcotic Drugs Prevention Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The spokesperson noted that Hussain's residential property and three vehicles in Jhulas village were confiscated, while Ahmed's house in Karamara village was also seized. According to the investigation officer, there was evidence suggesting that these assets, valued at over 8 million rupees, were acquired through drug trafficking, leading to their confiscation under the law.
